LUAP’s latest project looks to deepen his investigation into mental health, well-being and connection embodied by his now iconic Pink Bear character. The new installation explores human caged potential and how sometimes we can be incarcerated by our own feelings even though the key is in the lock and the door is wide open.

These seemingly unbreakable bars can be feelings of being helpless, lost or overwhelmed by unfamiliar situations or obstacles from past trauma. These feelings which often torment an individual can leave them unable to harness and free their true potential and talent and instead leave them shackled and locked away by the fear of unknown.

Mental health problems can stem from societal problems and the inability to afford the basics of normal living. Something more prevalent in modern life especially times like now when basics like food and fuel are increasing on what seems like a daily basis, adding further anxiety to life.

Pink Bear

Exploring existential subjects within a contemporary narrative his work stands alone in its composition and provoking content and subject matter. LUAP’s most iconic series depicts a Pink Bear come-to-life and is placed in the real world acting as a metaphor for discovery and exploration. The costumed figure – a striking motif in his work – exists between reality and make-believe, youthful innocence and adult corruption, leading a lifestyle that looks simultaneously enviable and questionable.
